Do Students Have a Say?

At Montgomery County High School, many things are changing under the new leadership of a principal. Do the students have a say-so in what happens under this leadership or are we in an oligarchy? Some of the things that have changed include the following; a new schedule, the proposal of a dress code (shudder), and the freshman experience. Students should have a say in the things that are changed here.

A New Schedule

The new schedule is going to be harder for the student body. Going from four or five classes a day to seven classes a day will give us more homework and less opportunities for personal time. We will be over booked and over stressed in all our other activities.

Proposal of a Dress Code

A new dress code would effect this school dramatically. With a new dress code, the drop out rate will increase, self expression will decrease, and more time will be spent on worrying about what students are wearing and less on teaching.

Freshman Experience

With the Freshman Experience and the new schedual a lot will change. The freshman will have an extra block and do what??? homework??? (doubt it!).

Under the new leadership of this school much has changed. Do you think the students have had much of a say of what has gone on?

Disappointed?

I was disappointed when my dad got put in jail. He was my best friend. We were living at the church with my grandparents, when someone broke into the church. When we called the cops, they ended up arresting my dad instead. He was officially arrested due to the war rent they had on him for child support. The day my dad was arrested was the worst day of my life, I was very disappointed.

When I Think of You

When I think of you
Sometimes I cry
But always all the good memories
Keep flashing in my head

Every time I talk about you
Think about you,
Every time I say your name
I remember your loving heart

I love you
I miss you
Your kind heart
Your loving arms

When I think of you
I always smile
Deep inside my heart shreds
Its still hard to believe
You will never be around
Even though your gone
You will always be in my heart

Lit Circle

Last Thursday, during our lit circle, we were finishing up the book, "Bondi's Brother". It was a book that our group extremely disliked. When it was time for us to talk about it, one of us, (Briana Reed), only read to page 8. Now we are reading "Twisted" by Laurie Halse Anderson. Hopefully this one will be more...tolerable than "Bondi's Brother", at least, that's what we are hoping.

Prince who Usurped the Throne

A man who thinks he can do anything
A man who usurps the throne
A man who puts all in misery
A man who thinks he can do anything

A servant who lives and breaths
A servant who works and slaves
A servant who puts starves and thirsts
A servant who lives and breaths

A child who is orphaned
A child who lives in torture
A child who wants what they can't have
A child who is orphaned

An elder who is sick and helpless
An elder who is tired and weary
An elder who gives what they have
An elder who is sick and helpless

A man who thinks he can do anything
A man who usurps the throne
A man who puts all in misery
A man who thinks he can do anything

Grammar

For grammar this week we studied in our books what pronouns are. We did exercises to help us understand what words are pronouns in sentences.

Vocabulary

This week for vocabulary we made posters. The posters defined poetry terms. Words that were defined were personification, allusion, metaphor, alliteration, simile, assonance, consance, imagery, stanza, rhyme scheme and onomatopoeia. We had to put the word, definition and an example(s).

Grammar Diagram

For grammar this week we did a grammar diagram where we had to label the parts of a sentence. (Verb Ph. , D.O., etc.) Then we answered some tough questions that made my brain hurt. jk. it was quite ridiculous and i didnt like it. But it was easily understandable.

It was so pitiful when...

It was so pitiful when I was six years old and my papaw died. Everyone was lugubrious. The only thing that I really remember was when my dad took me to his house to see him because they didn't expect him to last much longer. My mom told me that I always wanted to go and visit him and my granny. At my granny's the room that they used to sleep in is just there now. My granny won't sleep in there anymore and she barely goes in there anymore. We all miss him and love him so much.

He built my sister a bookshelf because when she was little that's all she did, read, and that's all that she asked for, a bookshelf. He made it all by himself. We still have it and we will never get rid of it either.

One thing that I remember about him was that he LOVED John Deere Tractors or anything John Deere.

~Briana Reed

I Am.....

I am unique and funny
I wonder if I would be a papaw's girl
I hear people thinking
I see my papaw
I want him to be able to see me now

I pretend that he is still here sometimes
I feel that I want it to be real
I touch my papaw's hands
I worry if I will be able to see him one day
I cry when I think about him
I am unique and funny

I understand that everything happens for a reason
I say that god loves my papaw very much
I dream that my papaw sees me sometimes
I try to do everything so I will be able to go to heaven
I hope that I get to be there with him one day
I am unique and funny

Journal Spotlight

My pecuniary goal is to save some money and spend what I don't save on clothes and shoes. I really love to shop and especially at the mall. I like to shop for skinny jeans and shoes mostly. I get most of my skinny jeans at Max Rave or Wet Seal. Those stores are the only place that I can get skinny jeans that fit me the right way. I like to get my shoes from Journey's because they have a bunch of different types of shoes. My goal is to get every color of skinny jeans there are and I already have blue ones.

11th Floor Ledge

If I were stranded on the 11th floor ledge of a skyscraper I would be sanguine. I would try to stay as calm as I could without panicking. I would most likely call for help, that is, if I wasn't to scared. I would wonder, while I was there, why in the world I was there because it must have been very important.

But, then again, when you thing about it, you don't really think about what you are doing when you are that scared. When you are frightened out of your mind, your mind doesn't work well.

Unctuous Guys

It is so annoying when guys are too unctuous. It's ok to be unctuous but not too unctuous. When guys are unctuous it is cute except when they are like clingy.

~Briana Reed

Most Annoying Person

The most annoying person I know would have to be my brother, Christian. When I'm at school I usually don't see him, so he normally doesn't bug me. But now that I have a class with him, he sometimes pushes me, it's so annoying. But the most annoying thing that my brother does is when I'm in my room and my door is locked, he just opens it and looks around for no random reason, it's so annoying. Sometimes he just screams really loud for no reason. He's like a parrot, just says something just to be loud, and annoying.

Grammar

In our English II class we took a test to see what all we needed help on. The grammar contract helps us gat a view on our areas of weakness. We hope this helps us improve on our weaknesses.

Our first weakness is pronouns. We found several practices that we could work on to improve. All together we have four areas of weakness. Our four areas are pronoun, prepostion, adverb and interjection.

We are using elements of language books, worksheets and creative activities. We hope after we work in these exercises that we will be able to improve in all four activities.

Fight!!!

The only fight I got into was back when I was in seventh grade. It was with a kid I hated and had many confrontations with. When he enrolled in my school, back in 6th grade, I was friends with him. Everything about us was the same, even our tempers. We were severely bellicose, clashing many times verbally, but never really got in a fight because of the kind of school we went to. A year of total mayhem went by. Then, in the middle of my 7th grade year, we were at each others throat at all times, waiting for the other to slip up. One day, we both had to go to the bathroom. The teacher knew of our issues so she sent an 8th grader with us to keep us in check. We went down and went in. I cant exactly recall what he said to me, but his words, along with the taunting of the 8th grader ignited the inner hatred in me. One thing led to another, and i had him against the wall. Then more stuff happened, and we got busted. We almost got suspended. we got lucky and only had to talk to the teacher in charge, (there wasn't a principal at the time.) Now we are cool, and when we get a chance to talk we always crack jokes about that day.

On the Ledge of a Skyscraper

Your standing on the 11th floor ledge of a skyscraper. What do you do?

I would freak out. Then I would walk around as much as I could. I would try to figure out a way to get into a window so I could be safe. After I had done that, I would be really sanguine. I would then tell everyone about it and how scary it was.

If there was one thing in my life I would change it would be....

I honestly don't think that I would change anything. My life is great as it is and I am very happy with everything that has happened. If I could change one little thing then it would end up changing pretty much everything that has happened in my life, nothing would be the same. Like for instance, if I would have ended up staying and living with my dad then I would not even be going to this school, I would not have the friends I have and I doubt I would be writing this paper. I like my life the way it is and would not change a single thing about it.

The Cave, The Cabin, and The Tattoo Man

The Cave, The Cabin, and The Tattoo Man is a fun, adventurous, and carefree book. Tim Callahan, author, does a fantastic job at capturing all the small and specific details behind Timmy's adventures throughout Maysville, Kentucky in the summer of 1959. There is much to love about The Cave, The Cabin, and The Tattoo Man.

In this book there are many interesting parts. My favorite part is when Timmy finds the cave. It's my favorite part because he finds all the old Indian paintings. Timmy explained them so well, that I could imagine almost every picture.
~Ciara Sallee

My favorite part of the book is when Timmy goes to Mrs. Robbins' house to help her with some chores. When Timmy walked in, he found Mrs. Robbins lying on the kitchen floor. when Timmy walked in, he found Mrs. Robbins lying on the kitchen floor. As Timmy looked around, he found he Bible open to the verses that he was asked to memorize [John 3:16-16]. Next to the verses was written, "I'll meet you there."
~Briana Reed

My favorite thing about this book is that its not it's not completely boring. It has some ability to keep me paying attention. It makes me think about today's Kentucky and how different it was in the book. It was interesting enough for me to keep reading, but not my favorite.
~James Kirk

My favorite part about this book is when Timmy recites John 3:16-17 in oak Hills Church. Preacher Black asks Timmy to memorize the verses and say them during the next Church service. John 3:16-17 say, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." He tried very hard to memorize these two verses over two weeks. In the end, with a combination of nerves and his speech impediment, he said, "For God so loved the turd that he gave his only forgotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the sorld to condemn the world; but that the wold through him might be saved." Despite his mistakes, everyone complemented him on his courage.
~Liz Chamness
My favorite thing about the book is that it is so adventurous. It is a great suspense book. It is always keeping me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what is going to happen next. My favorite thing about the book is that he is carefree and adventurous. He will go out and do what he wants and not worry about it.
~Shelby Kline

If you like adventure books, then this is the book for you. The Cave, The Cabin, and The Tattoo Man is an on-the-edge-of-you-seat book ready to be picked up. Once you do so, there's no lying it down till the last word.
